To be eligible to join the UDC-CC Beta Sigma Upsilon Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, students must 1) attend UDC Community College, 2) have 12 credits, and 3) maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. Upon joining Phi Theta Kappa, students have access to $37 million dollars in scholarships. As a result of scholarships, campus involvement, and additional support, Phi Theta Kappa students are four times more likely to complete college.
Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages academic achievement of two-year college students and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Our chapter was one of 17 (we have 78 chapters in the Middle States Region) to earn this distinction. All 5 of our officers have completed a series of workshops and activities through a national leadership program called Competitive Edge, and all 5 officers have earned a “five star status”.
- Our chapter also won the Middle States Honors in Action Theme Award! Our PTK chapter completed a “Honors in Action” research project on the topic: the Nature of the Quest last fall, and PTK headquarters voted our Beta Sigma Upsilon chapter as the best entry in this category.
