Lydia Williams serves as the director of the Student Success Team of the new Community College of the District of Columbia. She strives to foster a learning environment where students from all backgrounds can attain the knowledge and skills needed to realize their personal and professional aspirations.
Ms. Williams has served as a director and provider of student advice and counseling at numerous higher education institutions, including the Community College of Baltimore County, Harford Community College, and Rider University. In these positions, she has developed and implemented innovative events and programs to enhance student services, while providing leadership and training for academic and counseling staff. Most recently, as counselor and the associate director of Advising, Counseling and Retention Services (ACRS) for the Georgia Perimeter College, she created a one-stop-shop for student service by initiating and implementing a new student orientation format, open registration advising schedule, and orientation and registration activities for students. At Harford Community College, she also taught five sections of Career Planning and Decision Making.
Ms. Williams is a member of numerous academic associations, the Middle States Accreditation Subcommittee, Harford Community College’s Traffic Hearing Board, and the Harford County Department of Social Services Citizen Advisory. She has received the Maryland NAACP Citizen Award in Talbot County and the HCC Presidential Award for Excellence from Harford Community College. She earned a master’s degree in personnel services and counseling from Miami University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Delaware State College. She also has a certificate of advanced graduate study in counseling from Johns Hopkins University.
