Fifty Students from the Community College of the District of Columbia Participate in Gap for Community Colleges
June 15, 2011 - In Spring 2011 Gap Inc. and the UDC Community College (UDC-CC) partnered as a part of President Obama’s Skills for America’s Future program, an initiative to improve industry partnerships with community colleges to ensure that America’s community college students are gaining the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the workforce.
Dr. James Shaw, a Visiting Assistant Professor for Biology, has been selected as a summer fellow for Bio-Link, a National Advanced Technology Education Center of Excellence focused on Biotechnology and Life Sciences.
CCDC participates in Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) annual Capitol Hill Conference
In early April 2011, Lily Najera and Halek Sanchez, two UDC-CC students, accompanied staff members Wesley Walsman, Academic Advisor, and Raysa Leer, Program Specialist, to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) annual Capitol Forum in downtown Washington, DC.
Dr. Jonathan Gueverra creates Minority Male Initiative
In Spring 2011, Dr. Jonathan Gueverra, in collaboration with faculty and staff, created the Minority Male Initiative to improve the enrollment support services and graduation rates of students from underrepresented communities at UDC-CC. This program, which has included forums, panel discussions, and regular meetings, has been a great success among students. The initiative offers academic support programs, staff/ faculty mentoring, peer mentoring, and personal development. All meetings and events are open to eligible students, faculty, and staff.
Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning and United Medical Center Partnership Update
Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning (WDLL) is pleased to announce its newest partnership with United Medical Center (formally known as Greater Southeast Community Hospital) in southeast Washington to utilize space to offer satellite allied health programming. The space is approximately 4,600 square feet with three large classrooms and two modern teaching laboratories.
Gap Inc. (NYSE: GPS) announced today the start of Gap for Community Colleges, a partnership between the UDC Community College (UDC-CC) and Gap Inc. as part of White House Initiative ‘Skills for America’s Future.’ The program will provide

It was standing room only at the Community College's convocation on Thurs., Oct. 13 as students, faculty and staff celebrated the school's formal debut at its beautiful new location on N. Capitol Street. The twin themes of hope and opportunity were reinforced in every speech--from keynoter Jim Vance (News4 anchor), who credited the professors of his alma mater who "would not let [him] fail" to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, who called UDC-CC the vehicle for erasing class and social disparities and Under Secretary of Education Martha J.

The Office of Community-based Learning, Research, and Service announces its new Civic Engagement Corp (CEC). The Civic Engagement Corp is focused on engaging UDC students in better understanding community and social issues through service learning and community service. This is an exciting opportunity to connect the University and community. In addition, the program would help develop civically engaged students as well as empowering both participants and the entire student body on/off campus.

Congratulations to UDC-CC's Hospitality and Tourism Management team which won third place in the business plan contest sponsored by the Darden Restaurants Foundation Entrepreneurship Summit. Our students, competing against teams from better-known and longer-established hospitality and tourism programs, were Anthony Preston, Maria Brooks, Juan Guevara, William Muriel, John Swain and Shiva Sharma.
